My Erasmus Experience in West Pomeranian University of Szcecin, in Poland.
Why in Poland?
Szcecin is the capital and largest city of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland. Located near the Baltic sea and close to the German border, it is the country's major seaport and seventh-largest city.
Szczecin's architectural style is due to trends popular in the last half of the 19th century and the first years of the 20th century: Academic art and Art Nouveau. In many areas built after 1945, especially in the city centre, which had been destroyed due to Allied bombing, social realism is prevalent. The city has an abundance of green areas: parks, avenues, wide streets with trees planted in the island separating opposing traffic (where often tram tracks are laid); and roundabouts. Szczecin's city plan resembles that of Paris, mostly because Szczecin was rebuilt in the 1880s according to a design by Georges-Eugene Haussmann who had redesigned Paris is under Napoleon III.
My Erasmus studies were an intense 6 month experience. Having the opportunity to study abroad, meet many new people from different cultures and backgrounds, and experienced intercultural competences. Many people were wondered why I chose an uncommon Erasmus destination. Poland always had been a country that intrigued me namelly because of it's history, remarkable landscapes and . Through this experience I had the opportunity to visit important historical momuments such as concentration camps and interactive museus. But mainly one the biggest reasons why I chose Szczecin, was due to it's geographical position in central Europe, which enabled me to explore some of Poland's neighbour countries.
